The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recognizes that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) occurs in the pediatric population. Excellent research shows that pediatric OSA is a disorder of breathing characterized by prolonged, partial upper airway obstruction and or complete obstruction that disrupts normal ventilation during sleep. OSA affects approximately 18 million people in the United States and is a common form of sleep disordered breathing (SDB).
Signs of untreated sleep apnea in school-aged children may include bed wetting and poor school performance due to misdiagnosed ADHD, aggressive behavior, or development delay.
Screening of Sleep Disordered Breathing
Modern 3D imaging at Wise-Lee Orthodontics allows us to evaluate the shape and size of your child’s airway. Is there a relationship to the teeth? Can orthodontic intervention at an early age help your child breathe better and develop normally? Get answers to these questions and more when you schedule your free consultation.
Questionnaire for Parents
Download this short questionnaire and answer its questions. Bring it in with you for your consultation and let us know what is happening with your child’s sleep. This will help determine if your child may be experiencing sleep disordered breathing.
